About

The Network Engineer Apprenticeship is designed for apprentices to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours to become proficient in planning and managing network installations. Supported by a course mentor, they will learn how to design, install, maintain and support communication networks within or between organisations. They will understand the network design, equipment and security. As an accredited CCNA and CompTIA Academy, we offer network engineers the ability to select different pathways, including Cisco CCNA, CompTIA, Network, Security and Server or Microsoft Azure. This is a 24-month programme, delivered through one-to-one mentoring, over 30 live tutor-led online classes and access to our state-of-the-art LMS packed full of networking material.

Network Engineers

Network Engineers are vital in various sectors, including public, private, and voluntary organisations, ensuring digital network functionality and maintenance. These professionals are essential in all types of organisations, whether large corporations with sophisticated, complex systems or smaller consultancies offering contractual support to clients. Their role encompasses various tasks, from maintaining hotel booking systems and managing customer access to Wi-Fi to working on large infrastructure projects where they collaborate in teams to achieve significant network-related milestones. Moreover, in large communication organisations, Network Engineers play a crucial role in servicing global networks, constantly adapting to new technologies to enhance the digital experience, from installing major communications systems to monitoring nationwide networks.

The demand for Network Engineers is growing due to technological advancements like 5G and Cloud computing. Their primary responsibilities include installing and maintaining computer networks and providing technical support. Effective Network Engineers must understand technical information and organisational needs, offering solutions compliant with legislative requirements. They handle hardware and software issues, quickly resolving network failures and communicating problems to minimise service disruption. These engineers work in various settings, interacting with management, team members, clients, and suppliers face-to-face or remotely. Their work environment is predominantly office-based, but it may involve travel to different sites or client offices, especially when working as consultants on large installations.
