Our Operations/Departmental Manager programme is designed to equip Managers with the key skills needed to manage resources, recruitment and information management. Throughout the programme, they will be supported by experienced management experts, who will give them the knowledge and skills that they can apply in the business environment.

An operations/departmental manager is someone who manages teams and/or projects, and achieving operational or departmental goals and objectives, as part of the delivery of the organisations strategy. They are accountable to a more senior manager or business owner. Working in the private, public or third sector and in all sizes of organisation, specific responsibilities and job titles will vary, but the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed will be the same. Key responsibilities may include creating and delivering operational plans, managing projects, leading and managing teams, managing change, financial and resource management, talent management, coaching and mentoring.

Roles may include: Operations Manager, Regional Manager, Divisional Manager, Department Manager and specialist managers.

Over the 18 - 24 month programme, Manager will cover a variety of topics allowing them to contribute to, and create, strategic plans alongside the creation and development of business plans which will be integral to your business’s progression. As part of this programme, Managers will learn to manage projects, lead and manage teams, manage change, talent management and support others through mentoring and coaching. We have worked with employers to develop an innovative and exciting programme which will benefit both Managers and businesses.

 

How is the apprenticeship delivered?

This apprenticeship is delivered through workshops that take place either in our training centre in Harrogate, in Leeds or at employer locations. Apprentices will also access our learning platform to access online learning and to build their portfolio.

 

Completing the apprenticeship

This is an apprenticeship standard so all apprentices have to go through the endpoint assessment process, also known as EPA. To complete the endpoint, apprentices will be required to:

  • Consultative Project (5000 word project)
  • Knowledge Test
  • Structured Competency Based Interview
  • Assessment of portfolio of evidence
  • Presentation on Work based Project with Q&A session

 

Here is the course outline:

1. Introduction

In this module, you will learn about the programme requirements and complete your initial skill scan

2. Leading People

7 hrs, 25 min

In this module you will evaluate different leadership styles, how to lead multiple and remote teams and manage team leaders. You will explore how to motivate and improve performance, and understand the impact of organisational cultures and diversity within the work environment.

3. Coaching, Appraisals and Giving Feedback

1 hr, 52 min

In this module, you will learn how skills, attitudes and learning impact goal setting and managing priorities and how to support others in reaching their full potential in line with organisational goals and values.

4. Managing People

2 hrs, 53 min

In this module you will consider how to manage multiple teams, and develop high performing teams. Understand performance management techniques, talent management models and how to recruit and develop people.

5. Building Relationships

4 hrs, 33 min

In this module, you will learn approaches to partner, stakeholder and supplier relationship management including negotiation, influencing and effective networking. Knowledge of collaborative working techniques to enable delivery through others and how to share best practice. Know how to manage conflict at all levels.

6. Communication

In this module, you will consider interpersonal skills and different forms of communication and techniques (verbal, written, non-verbal, digital) and how to apply them appropriately. Be able to chair meetings and present using a range of media. Challenge and give constructive feedback.

7. Operational Management

In this module, you will learn how to create strategic plans to deliver objectives and set KPIs. You will learn how to manage resources, develop sales and marketing plans, set targets, monitor performance and provide management reports based on analysis and interpretation of data.

8. Managing Change

In this model you will learn how to initiate, manage and communicate change.

9. Project Management

In this module, you will learn how to plan, organise and manage resources to deliver required outcomes. Monitor progress, and identify risks and their mitigation. Able to use relevant project management tools.

10. Finance

In this module, you will learn about budget controls, recognise and manage value for money and operate within organisational governance

11. Self-Awareness

In this module, you will learn about understanding your own impact and emotional intelligence. Understand different learning and behaviour styles. Be able to reflect on own performance, working style and its impact on others.

12. Management of Self

In this module, you will explore how to create a personal development plan and use time management and prioritisation techniques.

13. Decision Making

In this model you will look at problem solving and decision making techniques including data analysis to enable you to undertake critical analysis and evaluation to support decision making. This model also considers organisational values and ethics and their impact on decision making

14. End Point Assessement

In this module, you will prepare for endpoint assessment and successful completion of this programme.

15. Portfolio Evidence Requirements

6 days, 9 hrs

This module is used to collect the different types of evidence that will be needed for your portfolio which is submitted to End Point Assessment.
