About

Our HR Support Apprenticeship is designed to equip participants with the fundamentals required to work in any Human Resources environment. Throughout the programme, apprentices will develop knowledge and skills in areas such as HR practitioner effectiveness, recruitment and resourcing talent, performance management and HR legislation. HR Support Apprentices will typically be taking ownership of providing advice to managers on a wide range of HR issues using company policy and current law, giving guidance that is compliant and where errors could expose the organisation to employment tribunals or legal risk. This 12-month programme is delivered through one-to-one mentoring, over 30 live tutor-led online classes, and access to our state-of-the-art LMS packed full of HR learning material.

HR Professionals

HR professionals in this role are generally employed in medium to large organisations as part of the HR team, offering direct support to managers and employees. Alternatively, they may be an HR Manager in a smaller organisation. Their diverse responsibilities include responding to everyday enquiries, delivering HR advice, and managing various HR processes. These processes cover a wide spectrum, from basic transactions to more complex tasks, encompassing recruitment to retirement. They are also responsible for maintaining HR records through various systems, supplying pertinent HR information, and collaborating with the business on HR-related changes.

These HR professionals are often tasked with guiding managers on various HR matters, relying on company policy and current law to provide compliant advice. This role is crucial as missteps could lead to legal risks or employment tribunals. In larger organisations, their duties might extend to managing a small team. However, it's important to note that this aspect of team management is not included in this apprenticeship's scope and should be addressed separately by the employer.

Value to Apprentices

The value of this apprenticeship programme lies in its comprehensive approach to professional development, blending practical work experience with structured learning. Apprentices gain hands-on experience through the Consultative Project, applying their knowledge and skills in a real-world context, which is crucial for their role per the standards set. The Professional Discussion further complements this learning by enabling them to articulate and reflect on their skills, knowledge, and behaviours, ensuring a well-rounded understanding of HR practices. This combination of applied learning and reflective assessment equips apprentices with both the practical abilities and the critical thinking skills necessary for career advancement in human resources.

Value to Employers

Employers stand to greatly benefit from enrolling an existing employee or hiring an HR support apprentice due to the programme's dual focus on practical skill application and comprehensive understanding of HR principles. By participating in this programme, apprentices develop a deep understanding of HR functions, legislation, and best practices, which they can directly apply to improve HR processes within the organisation. This enhances the efficiency and effectiveness of the HR department and ensures compliance with current laws and policies, reducing legal risks. Furthermore, the structured learning and development of critical thinking skills in apprentices foster a proactive and knowledgeable HR workforce capable of addressing complex HR issues and contributing to the organisation's strategic goals. This investment in employee development also positively impacts employee engagement and retention, making it a valuable addition to any organisation's HR strategy.
